Powder metal parts in oil pump

Recently,engine oil pump and automatic transmission oil pump are mostly using constant delivery pump.Constant delivery pumps are always divided into external gear pump,inner cycloidal pump or inner gear pump etc.

Constant delivery pump,the size of oil pump capacity is increasing along with the engine RPM,they are linear relationship.But in order to control the min deliver rate during low RPM and Max. Deliver rate during high RPM,oil pump will be designed a bit big,it virtually places higher demands on displaying the engine bay.Meanwhile,when engine is in high RPM,redundant lubricant will be back from the oil circuit,which causes the increase of engine power consumption.But variable delivery pump will adjust the oil pressure and oil capacity according to engine working condition,to achieve oil saving purpose.

According to research,using constant displacement pump in engine,when the rpm is >2500r/min,around 50% with power oil will pass through pressure-release valve to flow through oil pump back to oil chamber or oil pan,bringing energy waste;but using variable delivery pump to replace constant displacement pump can generally save fuel oil 2%-5%,CO2 emission decreases 1%-2%.

Variable delivery pump always have external gear pump,vane pump and sliding vane type pump etc.External gear pump,such as Volkswagen EA888 project,there is a gear shaft to fix location,another one is gear shaft using spring along with pressure.to fix.During idle speed,the two gears will be meshed completely;but when rpm rises,the pressure of oil pump will also rise,after compressing spring,gear meshing area will become shorter in order to fix oil pump flow rate at any time.These types of pump gears are using powder metallurgy to produce.

Vane pump is mainly composed by housing,rotors and vane..Among them,housing and rotors are made by powder metallurgy.The working principle of vane pump is through pressure to fix eccentricity,then fix flow rate.



Sliding vane type variable displacement pump working principle is similar to vane type variable displacement pump.Both of them are fixing eccentricity to fix flow rate.The structure is as below.Slide is steel,connecting with slide is a middle set,external is sliding bush,middle is rotor.These three are made by powder metallurgy.
