Which factors will influence the shrinkage rate of MIM?

With continual precision improvement on MIM(metal injection molding) technology,except for choosing materials and improving the property,how to select proper condition and analyse the shrinkage rate are also the key point.Especially shrinkage rate,it will affect the quality etc....



 
MIM shrinkage rate
1. Resin pressure has serious influence on MIM shrinkage rate.With larger resin pressure,shrinkage rate will become small,the size of sintered parts will be bigger.Even in the same cavity,resin pressure will also be different with different product structure.So with the difference of shrinkage rate on multi-cavities,controlling the resin pressure is very important.

2. Mold temperature.Whatever noncrystalline resin or crystalline resin,the higher the mold temperature,the bigger the shrinkage rate will be.MIM needs to set up mold temperature into a specific temperature.When designing the mold,be careful with the cooling circuit.

3. Gate section.Generally,changing the gate section will change the shrinkage rate.Shrinkage rate will become smaller with enlarging the gate size,it is related with resin flowability.

4. The wall thickness of products will also influence the shrinkage rate.For non-crystalline resin,it shows different influence of shrinkage rate regarding wall thickness,The thicker the wall,the larger the shrinkage rate.So for crystalline resin,it is necessary to avoid very big change of wall thickness,especially with multi-cavities.
