What’s the difference of MIM and PM?

In our life,a lot of things are quite similar,they shares similar appearance,shape,even the name,therefor,a lot of people will misunderstand they are the same.Actually they are not.MIM metal injection molding is one of them,so what’s the difference of MIM and PM powder metallurgy?Now let me tell you.



MIM is the abbreviation of metal injection molding.This technology is to metal the metal feed stock into the mold and get the shape.This technology is a bit similar to casting,but more suitable to produce small and high precision parts.The advantage is no or very little post machining process,especially for those complex parts which have difficulty to use machining or other process to make.MIM would be considered as the first choice.

PM is the abbreviation of powder metallurgy.It is using powder metal as raw material,through compacting and sintering to reach the final part.This technology is suitable to make simple structure components.

Above is part of the difference of MIM and PM technology.They are very different,not only the manufacturing process,but also the cost are much different.
